Mahmudullah And Jaker Ali's fiery innings came in losing cause
The 3 match T-20 series started on 4 March 2024.The first match was played yesterday where Sri Lanka was victorious against the Bangladesh. The thriller was concluded in Bangladesh losing by 3 runs.
While batting first Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 206-3.Sadeera Samarawickrama’s undefeated 61 off 48 balls and Kusal Mendis’s 36-ball 59 set the foundation for Sri Lanka’s score. To lead the team past 200 runs, Charith Asalanka, the stand-in captain, scorched a 21-ball 44 not out with six sixes.
With the second ball of the day, Bangladeshi pacer Shoriful Islam removed Avishka Fernando for 4, and Taskin Ahmed removed Kamindu Mendis for 19, leaving Sri Lanka at 37-2.
For the third wicket, Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis put up a 96-run partnership.Mendis hit six fours and three sixes before being removed by Rishad Hossain, but Asalanka’s six-egging innings gave Sri Lanka a respectable score.Together, he and Samarawickrama made a quick 72 off just 32 balls to close the game strongly.
Bangladesh was reduced at 30-3 till fifth over after Angelo Mathews took 2 wickets. Than before Bangladesh could rebuild the innings another wicket fell and score was 68-4.
Playing his first Twenty20 match in two years, veteran Mahmudullah counterattacked to get the team back into the game. Mahmudullah hit 54 off 31 with two fours and four sixes, but Maheesh Theekshana defeated him after he and Jaker shared 47 runs for the fifth wicket.
Then Jaker, a little unsteady at first, took center stage. With four fours and six sixes, he carried the team to the verge of victory by himself, but Shanaka’s genius kept Bangladesh from winning.
The Second match will be played on Wednesday on 6 March at Sylhet Stadium.
