An estimated timetable for Mohammed Shami’s return to competitive cricket has been revealed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. After undergoing surgery recently, Shami, who hasn’t played since the 2023 ODI World Cup, will miss the forthcoming IPL 2024. The veteran bowler will also be absent from this year’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in the US and the West Indies, according to the BCCI secretary.

Shah revealed that the pacer has returned to India after a successful surgery and will likely return to competitive cricket in September during the series against Bangladesh.
“Shami’s surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh,” Shah said as quoted on PTI.

Schedule of Indian Team

This September, the Indian side will play three Twenty20 internationals and two Test matches against Bangladesh. In the meantime, Shami who finished first in the ODI World Cup in terms of wickets played the major ICC competition despite an injury. Following surgery on his Achilles tendon last month, he was unable to play in the five-match Test series against England.

Shami shared news with fans

The right-arm pacer took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news of his surgery with his fans. “Just had a successful heel operation on my achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet. #AchillesRecovery #HeelSurgery #RoadToRecovery,” Shami posted on X.
