24th August 2023, Mumbai: Warning Against Impersonation: Fake ISRO Instagram Accounts Detected
A day after the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made history with a successful soft-landing on the Moon, the government issued a cautionary statement about the existence of fraudulent Instagram accounts posing as the official ISRO account.
Official Account Details Provided by Government
The Press Information Bureau (PIB), a crucial arm of the Government of India responsible for disseminating accurate information, highlighted the proliferation of fake Instagram accounts claiming to be ISRO’s official profile. The PIB’s fact-checking unit emphasized that the authentic Instagram account of ISRO is ‘@isro.dos’. Citizens seeking reliable information were directed to visit ISRO’s official website, isro.gov.in.
The Role and Function of PIB
The PIB serves as a vital link between the government and various media outlets, including electronic, print, and web platforms. Operating under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), the PIB plays a pivotal role in sharing government policies, programs, initiatives, and more with the public.
ISRO’s Presence on Threads by Meta Platforms
Apart from Instagram, ISRO has also established its presence on Threads, a social networking platform launched by Meta Platforms (formerly known as Facebook, Inc.). This move further amplifies ISRO’s engagement with the public through various digital channels.
