As the top drags on the Nifty 50 index, shares of ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, L&T, Infosys, and TCS concluded the day. However, the Nifty 50’s advances were mostly driven by shares of Tata Steel, Coal India, Hindalco, and Power Grid.
Nonetheless, during the day, the mid and smallcap indices reached new all-time highs.
The BSE Midcap index ended 0.34 percent higher at 43,191.88, having reached a new all-time high of 43,223.69. During the session, the BSE Smallcap index reached a new high of 48099.29, but it was unable to sustain its gains and finished the day down 1.8% at 47,873.56.
During the day, the India VIX volatility index reached a new 52-week high of 22.30. It was up 6.26% at 21.81 at the close.
Due to purchases in the mid- and small-cap divisions, the total market capitalization of the companies listed on the BSE reached the $5 trillion mark during the session.
Investors gained about ₹2 lakh crore in a single session as the total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies was close to ₹414.6 lakh crore in rupees at the close, up from ₹412.4 lakh crore in the previous session.

In the Nifty 50 index, about 23 stocks closed higher. The top gainers were Hindalco (up 4.79 percent), Coal India (up 4.49 percent), and Tata Steel (up 3.63 percent).

Of the 27 firms that closed lower in the Nifty 50 index, shares of Nestle (down 1.61 percent), Hero MotoCorp (down 1.27 percent), and Maruti (down 1.10 percent) were the biggest losers.
