Adam Zampa out of IPL

Everyday a player gets injured or options out of IPL. We have been seeing this since few days. New name in this list is Australia’s Adam Zampa. Rajasthan Royals spinner Adam Zampa has pulled out of IPL 2024 due to personal reasons just before the start of the tournament. According to ESPNCricinfo, the franchise’s manager confirmed that the leg spinner, who was retained for IPL 2024, will no longer feature in this year’s season.

He was decent last year

Last year at the auction he was bought by Rajasthan Royals at price of 1.5 crore. He was decent throughout the tournament. He bowled well in his limited matches. He took 8 wickets in 6 matches. His economy rate was 8.55 and his average was 23.50.

He had very hectic schedule

However, Zampa has a young family and he was playing continuously. Following the 2023 World Cup, he stayed back in India to play in the T20I series. He also participated in the Big Bash League (BBL), after the white-ball games against the West Indies and New Zealand. The star bowler was previously part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rising Pune Supergiants, claiming 29 wickets in 20 appearances across four seasons for them. Zampa joins Jason Roy, Gus Atkinson, and Harry Brook in opting out of the league because of reasons other than injuries.

Tanush Kotian replaced Zampa in the squad

Tanush Kotian was named as replacement for Adam Zampa. He is a skilled off-spinner and valuable lower-order batter had high hopes of securing an IPL contract in 2023 following his significant contributions to Mumbai’s victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, his aspirations were not fulfilled when he was reported for a suspicious bowling action. However, the 25-year-old remained focused and bounced back impressively, finishing as the player of the tournament (502 runs and 29 wickets) in Ranji Trophy this season. He was one of the main reasons behind Mumbai winning the tournament.

Great All Rounder

Typically batting at No. 8 which is very difficult position to bat, Kotian showcased his batting abilities with an exceptional unbeaten knock of 120 runs in the second innings against Baroda in the quarters and continued his rich form. He played match defining innings against Tamil Nadu in the semi final match.

Prasidh Krishna was already out of the tournament

The inaugural IPL champions already had a fitness concern well before the start of the tournament, as right-arm seamer Prasidh Krishna underwent quadriceps surgery, ruling him out of the season. Captained by Sanju Samson, the 2008 champions made it to the final in IPL 2022, but it came in a losing effort against the Gujarat Titans. However, they were unlucky as they lost out on a playoff spot last year. Hence, they will be keen to perform well and qualify for the playoffs  this year. The franchise will have massive expectations from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been in sensational touch of late. Royals campaign begins against the Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Jaipur.
