US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited India for talks on trade, energy, defence and technology. He met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Mumbai.
Rubio said India and the US are very close to finalising their proposed trade deal, with only a few issues remaining.
Rubio said US tariffs were not intended to punish India and that visa restrictions were not specifically targeting the country.
The visit also focused on energy ties, with Rubio encouraging Reliance Industries to process more Venezuelan crude oil.
