South African lawyer Navi Pillay has won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for promoting peace and international law.
Born in South Africa to a family of Indian Tamil origin, Pillay fought racial discrimination and supported human rights.
She served as the UN Human Rights High Commissioner from 2008 to 2014 and worked to protect people facing injustice.
Her work highlights the importance of international law, human rights and holding those responsible for serious crimes accountable.
