UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak delivered a historic speech ahead of the UK’s national elections some time this year. The leader of the Conservative Party used the speech to focus on what he and his party have achieved in the last 14 years.

With an emphasis on the fact that only he can protect the UK and its citizens from an increasingly dangerous world, PM Sunak urged the voters to back him and the Tories.

He said that only he could defend the country against an “axis of authoritarian states”. He also attacked the Labour Party defying them to match his defence spending and his plans to tackle illegal immigration, an issue that is always in focus in UK politics.

PM Sunak used the platform for an all out campaign speech listing out his accomplishments while he has been at Downing Street.

The Labour Party attacked the PM in return saying his party is not going to solve the UK’s problems because they are the problem. Pat McFadden, Labour Party’s National Campaign Coordinator said, “The only way to stop the chaos, turn the page and start to renew is with a change of government.”

The upcoming campaign is set to be an ugly one if this speech is an indication of things to come. While the Prime Minister is focussed on drumming the achievements of the Conservative Party, the Labour Party is bringing up the numerous issues faced by the country in the last 14 years of Tory rule.

Even the questions faced by him are mostly focussed on the instability of the government with numerous changes in leadership.

On this Rishi Sunak said, “I am not for one second pretending that everything about the last 14 years was perfect, of course not. But I am proud of our record.”

The election schedule for the UK is yet to be decided with the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak not calling the election yet.
