Zohran Mamdani Faces Scrutiny Over CAIR Funding Ties as NYC Mayoral Race Heats Up Ahead of November 4 Polls
Zohran Mamdani for New York’s mayoral race may be the most high-profile and social media-savvy candidate in the US election on November 4.
New Delhi (India) November 4: Palestinian American activist Linda Sarsour has said that the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is now under a congressional specter of its connections with terrorist outfit Hamas, had been the top financial support for Zohran Mamdani’s run for New York City mayoral polls.
Claims of Hamas-Linked Donations Surface
Mamdani is the favored candidate in the Nov. 4 election, when results of the race will be announced. We made his rise,” Sarsour, who has also served as a political adviser to the Democrat candidate, bragged of helping fund Mamdani’s political ascent with the Hamas-connected non-profit, The New York Post reported.
The charge puts Mamdani under a cloud for receiving money from the body under scrutiny.
Evidence offered at a congressional hearing indicates that the nonprofit was initially seeded with funds directed to Hamas, according to the New York Post.
Linda Sarsour’s Remarks
In another video that was posted on Monday, Sarsour, who has thrown her support behind Hamas, said she would tell the story behind Mamdani's meteoric political rise and funding from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) when the election is over, the report said.
Sarsour, 45 — who belongs to the Democratic Socialists of America along with Mamdani — pledged that her squad would bring down the house if the nominee and frontrunner in the tense contest reneged on his Marxist vows, according to The New York Post.
Mamdani’s Background and Political Ideology
Mr. Mamdani, a son of the well-known Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, an Indian-Ugandan author, upset Mr. Cuomo in the Democratic primary race for New York City mayor and was declared the winner in June.
Mamdani, apparently the front-runner in the NYC Mayoral election this time around says he will “reduce costs so that New Yorkers’ lives can become easier,” because the city is getting “unaffordable.”
Mamdani was born in Uganda and raised in New York City, and is a New York State Assemblymember who describes himself as a “democratic socialist” while receiving routine condemnation from President Donald Trump as a“commie,”Jew hater" or just plain stupid.
High-Stakes Race Against Cuomo and Sliwa
He is running against former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, who he beat out for the party ticket and is seeking as an independent, while Curtis Sliwa is the Republican nominee. The current mayor, Eric Adams of New York City, whose officials were mired in scandal, exited the race in September.
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 4, and polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. As Sunday, (November 2, 2025) was the last day of the early voting which kicked off on October 25.
