Focus on Nari Shakti
Today, India marks its 75th Republic Day, with a focus on the themes of "Nari Shakti" and "Viksit Bharat." For the first time, 100 women with musical instruments such the sangh, nazada, and nagada led the procession. At the Kartavya Path, an all-female tri-service contingent will march past during the procession. During the Indian Air Force's fly-past, a group of about fifteen female pilots captivate the crowd, signifying the power and capability of 'Nari Shakti.’
This year's Republic Day event
Only female personnel made up the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) contingents.
For this year's Republic Day events, up to 26 tableaux focusing on the theme of women's empowerment were displayed. The Manipur tableau, which highlighted the invaluable contributions made by women in socioeconomic pursuits, included ladies handling the delicate lotus stem fibers.
Women riding boats were also featured in the Manipur tableau. A reproduction of 'Ima Keithel,' an extraordinary all-women market with a centuries-long history run solely by women, is situated behind the Manipur tableau.
The display from Chhattisgarh underscored the prominent role played by women in the tribal villages of Bastar, while the Odisha tableau showcased the active involvement of women in the handicraft and handloom sectors.
The Madhya Pradesh tableau, on the other hand, seeks to highlight the state's success in bringing women directly into the process of development through its social programs. Avani Chaturvedi, the first female fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force, is pictured in Madhya Pradesh's tableau next to a model of a fighter aircraft.
The Republic Day started by 10:30 am today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit the National War Memorial to lead the nation in laying a wreath as a meaningful way of remembering the fallen soldiers.
The defense ministry announced that President Murmu and her French counterpart, President Macron, will arrive shortly in the "traditional buggy," reviving a custom that has been lost for forty years.
The national anthem and a 21-gun salute with the native 105-mm Indian field guns occurred after the national flag was unfurled.
