Political tensions in West Bengal have increased after the state police arrested former Trinamool Congress minister Udayan Guha and filed two cases against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. This has caused a wave of controversy in the state.

Former Minister Udayan Guha Arrested

Udayan Guha was arrested from his home in Kolkata on Wednesday morning by officers from the Dinhata police station.He is accused of cheating in a case related to a complaint by a businessman.The complainant said Guha took money to set up a newborn care facility at a hospital in North Bengal. The work was not done.

The complainant paid ₹25,000 after negotiating from ₹50,000. He got a receipt for ₹10,000. Was threatened when he asked for proof of the remaining amount.

Guha is being taken to Cooch Behar for investigation. He is the former TMC minister to be arrested in recent years on allegations of corruption and cheating.

New Cases Filed Against Abhishek Banerjee

Two new cases have been filed against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.The cases were filed based on complaints by BJP leader Abhijit Das.One case is related to irregularities in cyclone Amphan relief funds in 2020.

The second case is about the excavation and sale of soil from government land near Joka in Kolkata.The police are investigating both cases. Will take further action based on the evidence.

Investigations Against Abhishek Banerjee

Abhishek Banerjee has been questioned times by the CID in connection with separate allegations. These include speeches and a signature forgery case.He has also appeared before the ED in connection with alleged recruitment irregularities in state-run schools.

The political situation in West Bengal remains highly charged. Opposition parties have increased their attacks, on the ruling TMC accusing it of corruption.
