The BMC will launch the new ‘Participate Mumbai’ initiative in Mumbai at 11 am on Monday and also sign an agreement with Samagra Sanstha. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be in the programme and we expect top political and civic leaders to attend the event.
Deputy Chief Minister and Mumbai City District guardian minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Assembly Speaker and local MLA Rahul Narwekar and Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha are also expected to be present. Ashish Shelar, Mayor Ritu Rajesh Tawde, Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi and MLA Amit Satam are also expected to be there. BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, senior civic officers, committee chairpersons, group leaders and elected representatives are also expected to be in the hall.
What is ‘Participate Mumbai’?
The new initiative aims to make citizen participation in Mumbai’s civic administration more organised and meaningful. Residents could also be able to highlight problems in their own neighbourhoods, suggest solutions and provide their feedback to civic authorities on the platform so that they are able to raise their concerns and make suggestions. The project will also make Mumbai’s residents more engaged with the municipal administration as well as help it to improve the local administration’s communication with Mumbai residents.
BMC And Samagra Sanstha Sign Agreement.
The agreement between the BMC and Samagra Sanstha is expected to be the basis for the implementation of the initiative. The partnership aims to move citizen involvement beyond complaint making or short-term campaigns, and to create a more formal platform for public engagement for citizens to participate in society.
The larger scheme is to create a space for citizens and civic bodies to help the public and government on local issues and city-level governance. Better Civic Services. The launch takes place at a time when improving civic service delivery and improving the communication among residents and authorities is a top priority for Mumbai.
It is in this spirit that the BMC will look to engage residents and make them participate in identifying challenges to their community and to put forward ideas to address them as part of 'Participate Mumbai'. If implemented well, the initiative could help Mumbai residents in a more direct and organised way to engage with the city’s government.
