New Delhi (India) June 29: Ireland made history on Sunday at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast with a 1-run win over India in the second T20I match of the two-match series. This was the first time the Irish were victorious in a bilateral series against India in international cricket, achieving a 2-0 victory in the series.

This historic series win marked Ireland's first-ever win over India in any format. They had previously defeated the reigning T20 world champions by 34 runs in the first match.

In their innings, Ireland scored 154/8 after being put in to bat. Harry Tector displayed a brilliant performance with a half-century, and Benjamin Calitz contributed 37 runs.

India Struggle Despite Late Fighting Effort

India's pursuit of the target got off to a disastrous start. Jai Moondra dismissed Sanju Samson for a golden duck off the first delivery. Abhishek Sharma also fell for a golden duck in the same over due to an extraordinary catch by Matthew Hollard. The situation worsened as Shreyas also got out, giving Moondra a third wicket. Despite Tilak Varma beginning positively, miscommunication with Ishan Kishan resulted in the latter being run out after Tilak declined to take a run, leaving India struggling at 35/4.

Tilak Varma and Axar Patel attempted to stabilize the innings with partnerships that helped India for a short period of time. Axar provided support, while Tilak led the chase with a half-century. He was dismissed shortly after reaching his fifty. This proved to be a crucial turning point in the match. Harshit Rana almost pulled off an incredible chase. He hit a series of boundaries that led to eight runs from the final two balls, raising hopes of an unlikely Indian victory. However, in his attempt to end the match with another hit, Harshit mistimed a full toss and was caught, sealing a famous one-run win for Ireland.

Shreyas Praises Ireland After Series Defeat

Indian Captain Shreyas Iyer said, "Not a great series but kudos to them with the way they played. They had a tremendous idea how the wicket would play and the field work was phenomenal. The bowlers were phenomenal with their execution. They outplayed us in that department. He has got great experience in the IPL, he has his own set of ideas and plans when he comes on to bowl, Suryansh as well. It is an honour and a pleasure to be here," after the match.

Lorcan Tucker Hails Team's Performance

Lorcan Tucker, the Ireland captain, lauded his team's resilience, stating that the players had shown great character.

“I can't quite believe it. I challenged the lads to show the world that was not a one off and yeah they responded. We came out with the same intent as the previous game. We showed that cricket can be simple and you don't need to complicate it. We have a lot of lads with very few caps but they showed great character. We are so lucky to have these games against India. It is a great time to be a professional cricket in Ireland," he said.
