New Delhi (India) June 6: There is a notable move away from the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, as Shreyas Iyer will assume captaincy and Tilak Varma vice-captaincy in India's upcoming T20 series against Ireland and England.
Vaibhav Breaks Sachin's Record
Notable players have been selected such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who has set a new record for the youngest player selected for the Indian team at 15, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar, who was selected at the age of 16 in 1989.
Other players in the squad include Nitish Reddy, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj and Prince Yadav. All the selected players remain unchanged for the Asian Games squad, but with the addition of Jasprit Bumrah to the squad and Mohammed Siraj and Prince Yadav leaving it.
Agarkar Backs Shreyas For Leadership Role
The explanation given by Ajit Agarkar on this decision for selecting Shreyas Iyer is because of the fresh start given after the team won the T20 World Cup. To the surprise of many, Shreyas has been left out of the team in recent times but has now rightly earned a place in the team.
"Clean break after WC. We've got a bit more time. Shreyas absolutely deserves it. With the bat. Also his performances as captain, having won it once at KKR, couple of really good seasons with PBKS. It was unusual he wasn't part of the T20I squad, but now that he's found a spot, he has earned it," said Agarkar
Agarkar Discusses Captaincy Change With SKY
Suryakumar Yadav has been completely removed from the setup for T20Is and Agarkar has had a chat with Suryakumar Yadav regarding his removal as captain, though it's a thing that the latter refused to share with any one.
"Yeah, I talked to most people. When we are making such a decision, particularly when it comes to a captain who won the World Cup. So, that’s between him and me. But, yes, I have spoken to him," said Agarkar.
