Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee have reportedly expressed support for the viral online movement called the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been making headlines across social media platforms.

The update was shared by Derek O'Brien on X on Monday. He said both leaders were focused on continuing their political fight after the party’s defeat in the West Bengal polls.

In his post, Derek O’Brien wrote that Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee showed “steely resolve” during internal review meetings and also expressed their “fondness and full support for Cockroaches.”

How Cockroach Janta Party Went Viral

The Cockroach Janta Party was started by Boston-based Abhijeet Dipke and quickly became popular online after launching on May 16. The movement gained attention after controversy surrounding remarks allegedly linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, which many social media users interpreted as comparing unemployed youth to “cockroaches.”

Soon after, the group adopted the cockroach symbol as a form of digital protest and started using satire, memes, and online campaigns to attract followers.

The movement became especially popular among young social media users because of its humorous style and anti-establishment messaging.

Website, Social Media Buzz and Crackdown Claims

According to reports, the group’s website described its members as people who are “unemployed, lazy, chronically online” and able to “rant professionally.” The website was later reportedly taken down.

The movement has also spoken against issues in the education sector, including allegations related to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The group demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

Founder Abhijeet Dipke recently claimed that several of the group’s social media accounts became inaccessible as part of a crackdown. He also alleged that his personal Instagram account was hacked and that backup pages faced temporary suspension.

The group’s original X account was withheld in India on May 21. However, the movement later returned online through a new account called “Cockroach is Back,” which has already crossed more than 2.27 lakh followers.

The rise of the Cockroach Janta Party has now turned into one of the most talked-about online political satire movements in recent weeks, sparking debates around youth frustration, unemployment, education issues, and digital activism in India.
