New Delhi (India) February 10:The joint platform of 10 central trade unions said the nationwide general strike on February 12 is currently firmly on, with an expected attendance count of 30 crore workers nationwide. The unions have been calling for a strike call since January 9, 2025, to demonstrate their resistance to anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national pro-corporate policies of the central government.

Strike Gains Momentum with 30 Crore Workers

All India Trade Union Congress General Secretary Amarjeet Kaur informs reporters this time, not less than 30 crore workers will take part in the strike called on February 12. The strike is against the central government. She said around 25 crore workers had joined the agitation.
She said the strike is expected to affect 600 districts, more than the roughly 550 districts affected last year. The unions’ estimates are based on strong preparations at the district and block levels, with farmers and other federations pledging solidarity as well, Kaur added.

Key Demands: Scrap Labour Codes and More

The unions said strike notices have been served on most sectors and industries while preparations are underway. Some of their immediate demands are the scrapping of Labour Codes & Rules, the withdrawal of Draft Seed Bill, the Electricity Amendment Bill, Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act.
The unions are demanding the reinstatement of the MGNREGA and scrapping of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025.

Farmers' Unity via Samyukt Kisan Morcha

From the joint forum statement it was announced that the Samyukt Kisan Morcha is fully involved in supporting the strike and mobilisation. The unions of agricultural workers are also involved, focusing on demands for the restoration of the MGNREGA.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha reaffirmed its full support for the strike on February 12 as a concerted effort to oppose, among others, the privatisation, contractualisation and the change to government proposed laws which affect labour and agriculture.
At protests across the country major participation from farmers, agricultural labourers and local industrial organizations is expected to form a large segment of the local labour force.
