New Delhi (India) February 16:Various schools in Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, received a bomb threat email on Monday, causing panic among the people and prompting a police response, an official said. He also mentioned that the threatening email referred to turning India into Khalistan.
"Several schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threats through email. The threat mail also mentioned 'turning India into Khalistan'," Ahmedabad District Education Officer said.
Threats in Punjabi Warn of Explosions
After receiving the threat from multiple schools, the Ahmedabad Police increased deployments and conducted additional checks. They stated that the threat email was in Punjabi and warned of a blast, adding that the schools would need to be monitored under surveillance as crime branch teams were dispatched to the sites. Authorities urged citizens to remain calm while investigations were underway and promised strict action against those responsible for causing the panic.
Five Schools Named and Evacuated
Officials said the emails sent to at least five schools indicated they would detonate. The institutions involved were Asia School, A One School, DAV International School, Tulip International School, and Ankur International School. Schools were evacuated immediately following the threats.
Bomb Squads and Dogs Deployed
The police then cordoned off the areas around the campuses. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams and dog squads were deployed to conduct thorough searches of the premises.
The school management informed parents of the situation, and there was footage of many attending the campus to bring their children home.
Police Ramp Up Security and Searches
Several senior police members arrived at the sites to oversee the events. The police stated that investigations were ongoing to determine the source of the emails and assess their credibility.
No suspicious objects were found when reported, the same authorities said, but all necessary precautions were being taken given the nature of the threat.
Echoes of Delhi Hoax Call
A similar threat was reported to seven schools in Delhi last week, where the threat stated that the national capital would be turned into Khalistan. It was issued in an email with graphic, provocative content, officials said, adding it was a hoax.
The ominous email also warned that a blast might occur inside the Parliament as well.
