New Delhi (India) September 10: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has warned of yet another agitation between September 19 and 24 if no assurance is provided in the next seven days about all the Ladakh specific issues. Hours after he had raised the issue, he lamented about the progress of talks held between various key Ladakh groups and MHA sub-committee in New Delhi.

Wangchuk stated that he was disappointed about the meeting held between a group of Ladakh leaders and the MHA sub-committee over the issues in New Delhi. Referring to that with a popular clipping from a famous comedian, Jaspal Bhatti's show, Wangchuk pointed out little has been achieved.

Wangchuk Warns Of Fresh Agitation

As a part of observing September as "Martyrs' Month"-celebrating the men killed or jailed following mob violence in Leh on Sept 24, 2025, the LAB will organize on September 10 a padyatra from Kargil to Leh. Wangchuk hinted the padyatra might still be organized if substantial decisions were not taken.

"We will once again appeal to people from across India to come forward in support of Ladakh, in support of the environment, and in support of the people of Ladakh who remain steadfast on the country's borders," Wangchuk said.

"If Ladakh is not treated in the same manner and a stepmotherly treatment is meted out to Ladakh and the people living along the borders, then we will be compelled to launch a very large-scale agitation after September 9," he added.

Kargili Seeks Clarity On Powers

Kargil Democratic Alliance(KDA) official Sajjad Kargili had stated the delegates visited Delhi anticipating a draft on powers and structure of the body.

Kargili added the gathering affirmed the body would be an elected one, and that the delimitation and constituencies would be separate. Though the groups remained in the dark on the allocation of powers, law and order in particular.

"We had come from Ladakh with the hope that a draft would be ready for creating the UT-level elected body, an issue on which there is a consensus. We were hoping that the talks would go forward from there. But unfortunately, we were disappointed," he said. 

He added, "However, we will consider these things satisfactory only when a draft of this will reach us and on that draft, we will see whether these things are coming down to the ground or not.”
