Tripura Govt felicitates CWG Gold Medallist Asmita Dey
The Tripura government on Wednesday felicitated Asmita Dey, India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medallist in judo, for her historic achievement. The state government presented the star judoka with land allotment documents and a cheque of ₹10 lakh.
The honour came during Asmita Dey's first visit to Tripura after her memorable gold medal victory at the Commonwealth Games.
Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura, praised her and said her success would motivate other sportspersons from the state.

The Tripura government recognised Asmita Dey's contributions to Indian sports and her historical achievement in judo during the felicitation ceremony.
Chief minister Manik Saha personally gave her the land allotment documents and cheque worth ₹10 lakh. He referred to her as Tripura's Golden Girl and said that her success made the entire state proud.
The Tripura government is creating more opportunities and platforms for young athletes, the chief minister said. He said many more talented sportspersons would arrive from the state in the next few years.
"The future of Tripura is very bright,” Saha said as he spoke about the growing sports talent in the state.

The chief minister also mentioned the achievements of other famous athletes from Tripura who have represented India at major levels.
He mentioned Arjuna Award-winning gymnast Dipa Karmakar, gymnast Montu Debnath and many other sportspersons who have brought recognition to Tripura through their performances.
Asmita Dey's Commonwealth Games gold medal is another proud moment for the state and could encourage more young people to take up sports professionally, said Saha.The Chief Minister later posted a message on Facebook and congratulated Asmita, and praised her for her inspirational journey.
He said Tripura's Golden Girl inspires everyone and hoped she would continue to lift the state up and bring glory to both the country.
Asmita Dey's journey from Belonia to Commonwealth Gold
Asmita Dey's journey to becoming India's first Commonwealth Games judo gold medallist began in Tripura.She began learning Judo at a training center in Belonia in South Tripura district. Her early training helped her to have a solid foundation in the sport.
Later she moved to Sports School in Agartala where she continued her development as a young judoka. She competed in several district and state-level competitions and also in national-level events.
Her trip gradually took her to bigger sporting venues, including events connected with Khelo India and the Asian Games.
Training in Bhopal Helped Shape Her Career
After her time at the Sports School in Agartala, Asmita moved to Bhopal for further training.She also completed her graduation there along with continuing her sporting journey. Years of training and participation in competitions helped her in preparing for international success.
From a young athlete in Tripura to standing on top of the Commonwealth Games podium, Asmita has been working hard and dedicated.
Her historic gold medal has not only taken Indian judo to a new level in the modern era but has also inspired young athletes (in particular from smaller cities and states) to become high achievers.
Serving in the Uttar Pradesh Police
Aside from her sporting career, Asmita Dey has also been with the Uttar Pradesh Police for the last two years.She was a hard worker and did what she did so she wouldn’t let her job get in the way of judo and became successful.
Her Commonwealth Games gold medal means a lot more to her career and has brought her national recognition.The special honour from the Tripura government shows that the state appreciates the success she is achieving and the pride she has brought to her home state.
