Abhishek Sharma equals Rohit Sharma’s record

The batter hit 35 balls to reach his fourth century of the T20I, matching Rohit Sharma’s record for the joint-second fastest century for India in the shortest format.

Abhishek started with a six off the first ball and laid into the New Zealand attack. A flurry of boundaries off Kyle Jamieson meant Abhishek reached his half-century off only 15 balls.

The left-hander did not slow down and punished the bowlers.

India set records in T20I

India got off to a blistering start, hitting 118 runs in the powerplay. They set the highest powerplay score in T20 history.

They also reached 50 in 2.2 overs which means they set the record for the fastest team fifty for a Full Member nation in T20Is. They reached 100 off only 5 overs.

In the first over, Jacob Duffy gave up 26 runs which meant it was the most expensive over in a T20I innings.

Abhishek Sharma extended his record for hitting a six off the first ball faced to eight times in T20Is.

His aggressive approach, combined with Sooryavanshi’s contributions meant New Zealand struggled to stop the run rate.

Abhishek’s innings came to an end as he tried to hit another huge shot but missed. Glenn Phillips took a simple catch at deep mid-wicket off Jamieson to end Abhishek’s blistering innings.

He scored 113 runs off only 38 balls as he transformed the game. When he was out India had scored 178/1 in 9.5 overs.

His innings showed how deep India’s batting line-up is and how aggressively they play in the shortest format.

Abhishek’s innings was the standout moment in the Wellington clash with records being broken and New Zealand’s bowlers under pressure.
