Despite a painful injury scare, Pant returned to bat in Colombo and surpassed Dhoni to become India’s highest-scoring wicketkeeper in away and neutral Tests.

Indian wicketkeeper‑batter Rishabh Pant has written history beating former captain MS Dhoni to become India’s highest run‑scorer as a designated wicketkeeper in away and neutral Test matches.
 
Pant hit this milestone during India’s second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. At the time of reporting the left‑handed batter had scored 2,501 runs at an average of 41.68 in neutral Test matches surpassing Dhoni’s total of 2,496 runs.
 
The record places Pant at the top of a list of Indian wicketkeepers who have made valuable contributions with the bat outside home conditions.

MS Dhoni had long held the record for the runs by an Indian designated wicketkeeper in away and neutral Test matches.. Pant has now moved ahead of the former India captain.

Pant Retires Hurt After Blow to His Arm

 
The historic milestone came after a start for Pant in the second Test against Sri Lanka.
 
On the opening day in Colombo Pant was struck on his arm by a short delivery from Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara. The Indian batter tried to play a pull shot. Missed the ball and it hit his arm. Pant was in pain and received immediate medical attention from the Indian team physiotherapist. An ice pack was. The arm was strapped as the medical team assessed the injury.
 
After scoring three runs from 15 balls Pant eventually walked off the field in the 58th over of India’s innings.
 

Rishabh Pant Returns to Bat on Day 2

 
Despite the blow Pant returned to the crease on Day 2 after India lost their sixth wicket.
 
He joined Dhruv Jurel in the middle as India tried to recover and build a total. Sri Lanka’s fast bowlers kept challenging Pant with short‑pitched deliveries and Pant was struck again near the shoulder.Pant showed remarkable determination and kept playing. With Jurel at the end the pair added an important partnership to steady India’s innings.
By the drinks break Pant and Jurel had added 47 runs helping India recover after losing wickets.

Pant’s achievement is another milestone in his Test career. Going past a name like MS Dhoni in the record books is a special moment for the 28‑year‑old wicketkeeper‑batter.
