Major update on injured players

The fitness and medical teams of the BCCI have cleared Rishabh Pant to keep wickets for the Delhi Capitals in the 2024 Indian Premier League. However, Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna, two fast bowlers, have both been disqualified from the competition. On the other hand, KL Rahul, the selected skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants, has not been updated. Due to a quadricep tendon injury, he hasn’t played since the first Test matchup with England in January. The National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru is where Prasidh will start his recuperation after undergoing surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon on February 23, according to the BCCI. It is unknown when Shami, who just had surgery to address a heel problem, will be back. The medical staff at BCCI is keeping an eye on his development.

Update by Jay Shah

The information about Pant was released just one day after media reports from BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that Pant was “batting well and keeping well” and would be included in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup in June. “It will be huge for us if he can play for us in the T20 World Cup. He is really helpful to us,” Shah remarked. “He can compete in the World Cup if he can keep.” Watch his performance in the IPL.”

Injury of Pant

Along with a broken wrist and ankle from the vehicle accident, Pant, who stopped playing senior cricket in December 2022, also sustained a serious right knee injury that necessitated ligament reconstruction surgery. Now with the BCCI’s green signal, Pant might return to action as early as March 23, when Delhi Capitals travel to Mohali to take on Punjab Kings in their opening fixture. Under the guidance of NCA trainers and physiotherapists, Pant participated in a 20-over practice game at Alur, Karnataka, then started match-simulation workouts in Bengaluru in February 2024. At the time, Pant was said to have batted for the full 20 overs without any pain, and those in charge of him were said to have been pleased with his endurance. But Pant didn’t keep wickets back then, and he was told to start doing so again in March.

Pant will be the captain

Pant was named the IPL 2024 captain by Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal last month. He also stated that Pant would play the first half of the season as a hitter alone. Jindal had stated at the time that “based on how his body responds, we will take call for the rest of IPL”.
