Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's Response to NEET Allegations
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has been reappointed in Modi 3.0 cabinet, addressed a press conference today, June 13, Thursday, regarding the alleged NEET scam claimed by students. He stated that there is no evidence of NEET exam leakage. At the press conference, he said, "There has been no paper leak; no proof has been found yet. A court-recommended model was implemented for approximately 1560 students, and a panel of academicians has been appointed for the same."
"I want to assure the students and their parents that the Indian government and its agency NTA are committed to delivering justice in a transparent and reassuring manner. This year, 24 lakh students successfully appeared for the NEET examination."
"Everything will be presented before the court. Let's await the court's verdict. We will respect the court's decision," the Education Minister affirmed. "Two sets of questions are routinely provided across 4,000 centres. On the exam day, centres are instructed on which set to use. In six centres, the wrong set was mistakenly opened, which caused a delay of 30-40 minutes. The practice of having two sets of questions is not new and has been in place for years."
Social Media Outcry: Students' Dissatisfaction with NEET Results
On social media, students are claiming that there has been fraud in the results. Additionally, many students are mentioning that the issue of the NEET paper leak was never addressed by the NTA (National Testing Agency). Many students are asserting that scoring extremely high marks like 718 or 719 in NEET is impossible due to the NTA's marking criteria, which includes negative marking.
NTA's Official Response Regarding NEET (UG) 2024 Scores
According to a recent post shared by the National Testing Agency (NTA), scoring 718 or 719 marks is possible in NEET (UG) 2024. Here’s what NTA shared:
"The NTA received a few representations and court cases from candidates of NEET (UG) 2024, raising concerns about the loss of time during the examination conducted on 05.05.2024.
These cases and representations were reviewed by NTA, and the normalization formula, which was devised and adopted by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in its judgment dated 13.06.2018, was applied to address the time loss experienced by NEET (UG) 2024 candidates.
The extent of time loss was assessed, and affected candidates were compensated with grace marks. Therefore, candidates' scores can indeed be 718 or 719."
NEET 2024 Exam Details and Results
Students are calling it unethical and alleging fraud against them. They demand justice, stating that NTA is not addressing the issue of paper leaks. Despite claiming that scores like 718 or 719 are possible due to grace marks, they question why NTA did not address the leak issue. Some even suggest that NTA has lost its grace.
Exam Details: The NEET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), took place on May 5. It was held across 4,750 centres, with approximately 25 lakh students competing for admissions into government MBBS colleges. Initially, the results were scheduled to be announced on June 14 but were advanced to June 4 due to swift result evaluation.
67 students achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720, marking a historic first in the NEET-UG exam. However, concerns have been raised about potential fraud, with people questioning how six students from a single centre in Haryana managed to score full marks without providing any evidence.
