An insightful presentation titled “Third Light: Sensing Beyond Our Physical Senses” was recently presented as part of the Avani Institute of Design’s Building Voices, Building Alliances (BVBA) lecture series, “Journeys Beyond Architecture.” Architects Chang Huai-Yan and Goh Yu Han led the discussion, which was focused on how architecture may influence how we interact with nature in the future.

Tony Joseph, Chairman, Avani Institute of Design siad, “We were thrilled to host such insightful talks that challenged our perspectives and inspired us to reimagine the role of architecture in shaping our future. The BVBA series was a commendable initiative that fostered discourses on critical issues and shaped the future of architecture and design education.”

The conversation delved into intriguing ideas like “vertical green” cities, where structures coexist harmoniously with vegetation, and the potential for “rewilding the sky” by reviving extinct ecosystems. The presenters urged the audience to think beyond the boundaries of our five senses and explore alternative perspectives on nature.

The talk’s introduction of the “square forest,” a miniature form of a natural ecosystem, provoked some interesting discussion. The audience was motivated to consider our values and the place of nature in our lives by this concept.

The goal of the BVBA presentation was to inspire educators and students to view themselves as change agents. It also emphasised the significance of establishing interdisciplinary partnerships in order to tackle problems pertaining to environmental health, sustainability, and social responsibility.

The Avani Institute of Design’s Building Voices Building Alliances lecture series is an admirable endeavour that will shape the future of architecture and design education by promoting discussions on important subjects.
