Maharashtra Board Plans Big Changes for Class 10, 12 Exams

Shorter Question Papers to Reduce Student Stress

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is planning to make the exam papers simpler and smaller.

Some question papers are very long up to 10 or 11 pages. This makes it hard for students to manage during exams. The long papers also cost a lot to print every year.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education spends around ₹30 crore on printing exam papers each year.

To fix this problem a special committee looked into the matter. Suggested a new way of doing things.

The new plan is to make question papers shorter three or four pages and print on both sides. This will save a lot of money 60% and use less paper.

Trigun Kulkarni says that the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education wants to make exams easier for students to understand and less stressful.

The new format will also make the questions easier to read. The main questions and sub-questions will be, on the page making the paper more organised.

The new format will have:

Better question sequencing

A clearer marking scheme

formatting

An improved numbering system

 Easy-to-read multiple-choice sections

The officials think that these changes will help students focus better during exams and avoid confusion.

Stricter Laws Against Exam Fraud and Mark Manipulation

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is also planning to take action against exam fraud.

The current law, the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices Act, 1982 mainly deals with paper leaks and cheating.In recent years there have been many cases of answer sheet tampering and fake revaluation.

Kulkarni says that the current laws are not strong enough. So the board is trying to change the laws.If the changes are approved people who cheat with answer sheets and marks can be. Punished without delay.
