Where is Sheikh Hasina now? She is in India after leaving Bangladesh in August 2024 during protests. Demonstrators had surrounded her residence. Reports said security forces used lethal force earlier. Later a tribunal in Bangladesh sentenced her in absentia over protest deaths. Dhaka asked India to send her back. India has not agreed. Meanwhile who may lead next? Tarique Rahman of BNP has emerged as a strong contender as he returned from London in December 2025 after years abroad. His mother Khaleda Zia died days later. Election Numbers And Tight Political Battle

Why is safety a key issue? Reports show many attacks on minorities after 2024 unrest & data shared in India’s Parliament said over 2,400 incidents happened between August 2024 and March 2025. One shocking case was Dipu Chandra Das. He was beaten and burned by a mob after blasphemy claims & a rights activist from Dhaka said people feel scared. Online users reacted strongly. Some wrote that minorities feel unprotected during political tension. Bangladesh officials rejected criticism. They said outside voices try to create a negative image?

India Reaches Out Even To Old Rivals

Has India changed its approach? Earlier India trusted Awami League more. BNP was viewed with suspicion because of past alliances and policy views. Now things look different. India’s foreign minister met Tarique Rahman in Dhaka and gave him a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi & diplomats said both sides want practical relations. Trade, border issues, and water sharing remain key topics. Bangladesh parties also speak about India in their campaigns. One manifesto promised ties based on fairness and mutual interest. Observers say both countries may reset ties after results.
