A Tight Race in Thiruvananthapuram
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a former Union Minister, recently ran for office in Thiruvananthapuram. He was in a close contest with Congress's three-time MP, Shashi Tharoor. Although Chandrasekhar led for a part of the day Tharoor eventually won by 16,077 votes.
Announcing His Exit
Following the election, Chandrasekhar announced the end of his "18 years of public service" formerly on Twitter. He mentioned his time serving with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's team and expressed his disappointment at ending his public service career after losing an election. However, this post was later deleted because it confused about his future in politics.
Clarification and Support
Chandrasekhar clarified that he still plans to work for his party as a leader. Shashi Tharoor responded to his initial post, encouraging Chandrasekhar to try again in the future, saying he is young enough to take "another crack" at an elective office.
The Oath-Taking Ceremony
In a recent ceremony led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 71 ministers took the oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The new Council of Ministers includes 30 cabinet ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State. This diverse group represents 24 states and includes members from various social groups, such as Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minority communities.
