A trailblazer in the field of Jala Yoga, Dr. Savitha Rani.M. has garnered attention once more with her most recent project, which combines her skill in aquatic yoga with an emphasis on social responsibility. Dr. Rani led a special Jala Yoga session as India’s general elections got underway, highlighting the significance of exercising one’s fundamental right to vote.

Having practised Jala Yoga for 20 years, she has accomplished amazing things, including mastering 45 water asanas and breaking records with an 8-hour nonstop session. Her commitment to bringing Jala Yoga to a wider audience is demonstrated by her participation in international gatherings such as Kumbh Mela 2022, which highlights her passion for maintaining and advancing this distinctive discipline.

As she reflected on her journey, Dr. Rani said, “Yoga, ever since its origin, has been evolving continuously and has reached across the globe. Yoga means ‘to unite’—to create a union between the mind, body, and spirit, as well as between the individual and the universe.”

Her love for Jala Yoga began more than ten years ago when she agreed to take up her mother’s challenge to practise yoga on the river. Dr. Rani persisted through the early challenges and multiple near-drowning incidents, eventually perfecting the technique via discipline and will.

She explained, “Yoga on water is a combination of yoga, meditation, pranayama, and swimming. Performing various asanas on water requires focus, determination, and a strong gut to maintain balance. It took me over 5-6 years to master, but the rejuvenating experience it offers makes it all worthwhile.”

Acknowledging the transforming potential of yoga, particularly when practiced on the water, Dr. Rani has remained unwavering in her goal to inspire and teach others. Because Jala Yoga takes a lot of time, she does not teach directly, but she is happy to share her knowledge through lectures and workshops, raising awareness of the practice’s advantages.

In her most recent project, Dr. Savitha Rani.M led a special Jala Yoga class with an unusual goal: to motivate voters to carry out their civic obligation by casting ballots in the general elections. Understanding that casting a ballot is a basic democratic right, Dr. Rani took advantage of the chance to use her position to encourage others to use their right to vote.

As she was speaking about the session, Dr. Rani stated, “As citizens, it is imperative that we recognize the power of our vote. By participating in the democratic process, we shape the future of our nation. Through this Jala Yoga session, I hope to not only promote physical and mental well-being but also instil a sense of social responsibility among participants.”Savitha Rani, MD.M’s unwavering desire to create a positive effect in society and her multifaceted leadership are demonstrated by her attention to both physical and civic fitness.
