Rangotsav 2026, the colourful festival, set the stage for Holi festivities in Barsana, within the state of Uttar Pradesh’s Braj region. Conceived with care and cultural fireworks, the celebration was a prelude to the world-famous festival of Lathmar Holi.
Cultural Festivities and Traditional Performances
Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development and Sugar Mills Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary inaugurated the party and lit the ceremonial lamp to launch Rangotsav 2026. The air was full of chants of “Radhe-Radhe,” reminiscent of the Braj spiritual world.
The Minister Chaudhary stressed that people from Braj believe Lord Krishna and Radha are part of their own family. Barsana’s Lathmar Holi, once primarily celebrated in northern India, now has global appeal, he said.
The cultural evening included soulful renditions of Radha-Krishna’s Rasiya along with traditional Holi songs, along with devotional bhajans sung by renowned artists like Mishra Bandhu, Vivek Mehta, Poonam Didi, and Kumar Satyam, among others.
Government Support and Tourism Boost
Under Yogi Adityanath, the arrangement for Rangotsav 2026 has been made with the help from the Government of Uttar Pradesh; organized and also for the people of the faith since 2026 with excellent facilities.
Officials highlighted the development of Uttar Pradesh’s religious tourism infrastructure, explaining that the new development has led to better accessibility and safety at large pilgrimage destinations in the state.
A number of senior persons who were present at the inauguration, including administration officers and police officers, were also welcomed.
Tight Security for Lathmar Holi 2026
Ahead of the upcoming Lathmar Holi celebrations February 25, security forces will be gathered on site (including those who walk in plain clothes) among the crowd to make people from all over India aware of the event to ensure security. Officers masquerading as a “Huriyar” (the traditional Holi believers) and everyday believers will supervise everything to avoid any undesirable events
The custom of Lathmar Holi in Barsana, which is centuries old, has brought together generations of visitors who witness women hitting men with sticks in a playful gesture during the festive ceremony.
