Assam Student Hits Back After Being Called ‘Characterless’

A young student from Tezpur, Assam, has gone viral on social media after sharing a video in which an elderly woman allegedly criticized her outfit and called her “characterless.”

The student, Anushka Sharma, said the incident happened while she was riding her scooty to buy materials for a practical examination. According to her, the elderly woman stopped her and questioned her choice of clothing.

Anushka claimed that the woman referred to her outfit as “naked clothes” and accused her of negatively influencing society through the way she dressed. The woman also allegedly said that girls who wear such clothes should not be living in the area.

In the viral video, Anushka, dressed in a black tank top and trousers, can be seen asking the elderly woman why she was judging her outfit. The woman, who was also recording the conversation, continued to object to the student's clothing, saying it exposed too much skin and was inappropriate.

After the incident, Anushka posted the video on Instagram and expressed her disappointment, saying she never expected to encounter such a person in Tezpur.

Social Media Reacts

The video quickly gained attention online, with many users criticizing what they described as moral policing and outdated thinking.

Several people supported Anushka and argued that a woman's character should not be judged based on her clothing. One user wrote that it was disappointing to see people still making assumptions about women because of their outfits.

Another commenter said that society needs to change its mindset instead of criticizing personal choices. Others pointed out that real social problems come from greed, anger, jealousy, and lust—not from the clothes someone chooses to wear.

Many social media users also defended the student's right to dress as she wishes, emphasizing that clothing is a personal choice and that respect should not depend on appearance.

The incident has once again sparked a debate about women's freedom, personal choices, and moral policing in society.
