Delhi Malviya Nagar Fire Tragedy: 21 Dead After Cylinder Blast

The Delhi Fire Services initially dispatched seven fire tenders, but as the incident deteriorated, they increased the number. In all, more than 37 people were saved from the burning building. The building’s construction made things worse, officials said, as it was tightly enclosed from all sides, allowing smoke and fire to spread quickly. The fire services said it had only one official sustain minor injuries in the rescue operation. 

Hospitals Say Mass Casualties Are There. Max Hospital, Saket, said that it had received 39 patients, after the explosion of the cylinder. Out of those, 18 people were declared dead on arrival. Others had been admitted with acute breathing problems, burns and fractures. A minimum of 15 patients at present sit in the intensive care unit, and eight are on ventilator with vital conditions (VATs). Five people with minor injuries have already been discharged after treatment, while one patient was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital due to severe burns. 

The hospital claimed that emergency procedures were put in service instantly and that multiple medical teams were dispatched to deal with the extensive victims. Doctors now care for critically injured victims round the clock. Rescue Operations and Fire Control. Fire officials said the emergency call was received around 8:50 am, and the blaze was fully controlled by 10:25 am. Rescue crews managed to carry several people out of the basement and upper floors of the building. Three people were rescued from the restaurant’s basement and transported by CATS ambulances to nearby hospitals. 

They are not yet confirmed to be in critical condition. And officials identified among the deceased are foreign nationals, including people from Central Asia and Africa, bolstering the international toll of the tragedy. Investigation underway Authorities remain in the process of determining the very cause of the explosion and fire. The cylinder explosion is believed to have been the trigger, but officials have not ruled out other options. 

Police and fire departments are investigating the site jointly. The building has been sealed for further inspection and forensic teams are collecting evidence to identify safety violations or structural problems. Growing Concern Over Safety. The incident has raised serious questions on fire safety for commercial buildings which are being operated as restaurants; especially in a crowded residential area. Experts say poor ventilation and illegal structural modifications may have been responsible for the number of deaths. With some victims still in critical peril, death may reach yet another high, authorities said.
