Imran Khan gets Police Notice to Leave India by Oct 28
Imran Khan gets notice from Mumbai Police to leave India by October 28.

Actor Imran Khan, nephew of Bollywood superstar’s Aamir Khan has been directed to leave India by October 28, after participating in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan demanding that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar resign over the controversy regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Imran has citizenship of the United States of America. As per reports, Mumbai Police have taken action against the actor citing the relevant provision of the Immigration Act, since he participated in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen.

The actor has reportedly received a copy of the notice. Mumbai Police have also filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Gamdevi Police Station in connection to the protest as well as the detention of Imran and others who were present during the protest.

Imran Khan detained alongside partner and sister

Imran was detained during the Saturday protest, along with his partner, Lekha Washington, and sister, Zayn Marie, during the protest which drew widespread attention for demanding the CEC’s resignation over the controversy concerning the SIR issue.

Imran shared a photograph of himself in a police van on social media after his detention, with the humorous caption, “Apparently I’m going for a drive.”

A video of Imran was also shared which depicted him saying “Jai Hind” to police officers. In another video, Imran spoke regarding the situation and his detention.

“I honestly don’t know why I have been brought here. They picked all of us from the streets and asked us to sit in the vans,” he said.

Imran alleged that he and the other detainees were driven around in a police van for approximately two hours before being released.

Actor states he participated as an ordinary citizen

Before getting into the police van, Imran said he was not representing any organization and did not have any demands. He had stated he had joined the protest as an ordinary citizen of Mumbai.

“Sir, I don’t have any demands. I don’t have any status to demand anything from people. Nor am I a part of any organization, so I don’t speak as a representative,” the Delhi Belly actor said.

This police notice marks another development following the protest and Imran’s detention. It is a further blow to the protest for the CEC’s resignation and against the involvement of a foreign citizen in the protest.
