The 53-year-old suspect, Ndiaga Diagne, reportedly drove past a crowd and then circled back and opened fire starting from his SUV on individuals standing outside and inside a bar, according to reports.

The suspect was subsequently shot dead by police.

Now authorities are looking into whether the incident fits the definition of terrorism. Media reporting, including from the Associated Press, had said he wore clothing featuring an Iranian flag and with the phrase “Property of Allah.” Officials, however, lack clear motive and don’t claim there is a simple motive.

University Community in Shock

University Community in Shock. Savitha Shan, described as a bright and accomplished student, was pursuing a double major with honours and was set to graduate in May.

Russ Finney, Assistant Professor of Business at the McCombs School, remembered her as “one of the superstar students” and “a light in the classroom.”

He also reported that several other students were still hospitalized in critical condition, adding that it had been an incredibly painful week for the university and Austin people.

The shooting has once more revived fears around gun violence and campus safety in this country.
