Around 3000 Protestors Converge To PM Netanyahu’s House To Demand Fresh Elections
In a grand rebellion act in Israel, a large number of anti-government protestors gathered in Jerusalem on Thursday, June 27, and converged towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea. As many as 3000 protestors emerged around Netanyahu’s house demanding a set of fresh elections and the release of all hostages held by the Islamist group Hamas in Gaza.
Flags, Megaphones And Drums At The Site Of Protests
Police officers stood at the barricades outside Netanyahu’s residence as protestors waved flags, yelled through megaphones, and banged on drums with one of the demonstrations reading “We’ve been abandoned, elections now!”. Another flag read, “Netanyahu must go”. These demonstrations have become more chronic since the war in Gaza has intensified over the months and conflict with Hezbollah in Lebonan is threatened to escalate.
Protestors Block Route Between Tel Aviv And Haifa, Set Fire To A Road In A Residential Neighborhood
Demonstrators among the crowd chanted together in support of a deal to free around 120 Israeli hostages kept by the Palestinian terror group Hamas in Gaza. The protestors blocked the traffic between Tel Aviv and Haifa around sunset and lit a large bonfire outside on the Jerusalem street. No reports of major scuffles or use of water cannons by the police were reported. Although, reportedly the police said that they restored order after a bunch of demonstrators set fire to a road in a residential neighborhood.
Police Detained Person With Flammable Material, Discovered Smoke Grenade Near PM’s Residence
Prior to these protestors, the Israeli police had detained an individual converging towards Jerusalem. The suspect carried with him containers of flammable material and devices for smoke screens. The police also uncovered a load of tires filled with flammable cloths, in an itent to use them while blocking the route. In Caesarea, the police also uncovered a smoke grenade attached to a wire close to Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence. One of the demonstrators at the site, Einav Tzangauker says, “We will topple him to bring them (hostages) home and to bring back security to the citizens of Israel. There will not be a deal or reconstruction without the fall of the Netanyahu regime. When he falls, we will rise”.
