MNS chief Raj Thackeraywill join the ongoing MPSC protest on Monday at 4.
Students and job aspirants have been protesting over the lack of transparency in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission exams and the resignation of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimnawar.
The development comes a day after MP Omraje Nimbalkar was met with violent opposition from demonstrators during his visit to the protest site. Nimbalkar, who joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in June after being associated with Shiv Sena (UBT), was grilled by protesters over his political stand.
Some protesters shouted slogans against Nimbalkar and called him a “traitor.” But Nimbalkar remained firm on his decision and said he was still connected to the people of his constituency. Nimbalkar visited the protest site Sunday, the fifth day of the agitation. When the protesters interrupted him and accused him of leaving his constituency, he said he didn’t leave his constituency. "I have not gone anywhere. I am right here. I am an elected representative,

Nimbalkar said. He also said he still remained connected to people and had been standing with them through floods, droughts, and other hardships. Working for people now has been tough because of the lack of political power, Nimbalkar said later. But he also said he supported students and their concerns about the MPSC examination system. Competition exams are directly related to future generations of students, Nimbalkar said. Problems will include leaky question papers and other irregularities and the cancellation of exams, he told us. And those cancellations can be very bad for students who have spent months or years preparing for competitive exams, he said.
Nimbalkar also mentioned that the secretary of MPSC has been transferred. In the aftermath, he said he will meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and a delegation of students to discuss their demands. The protesters continued to chant during his speech as well. At one point in the speech, Nimbalkar told them, “I have come here to support you. Have I made a mistake?” Vivekanand Patil later appealed to the protesters to let Nimbalkar finish his speech. As the address ended, the protesters applauded him.
In Pune, the MPSC agitation is currently taking place at three different locations. The opposition leaders have visited the protest led by Rohit Pawar near SM Joshi Bridge. Leaders from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have visited protesters gathered on KBS Road. Another group of protesters is still protesting as well. The protests have also generated new political pressure on students and job aspirants who are worried about the recruitment and examination process in the field.
Raj Thackeray’s entry into the MPSC protest will bring a political dimension to the students’ protest in Pune. The MNS chief will meet protesters at 4 pm on Monday. Many students preparing for government jobs are forced to face a situation where they cannot go for exams at all if they cannot complete and are stuck in a lengthy waiting room for an hour or two to clear up the exam schedule. The Pune protest is part of a larger movement across the nation of protests over exam and recruitment-related problems.
Student protests have taken place at various places in the country over alleged examination irregularities in recent months. The issue has prompted demands for stricter examination systems, greater transparency, and stronger action against paper leaks and other irregularities. In Pune, protesters are continuing their agitation while political leaders from different parties visit the sites and express support for the students. With Raj Thackeray scheduled to join the protest, attention is now likely to remain focused on the MPSC examination system and the response of the Maharashtra government to the students' demands.
