Trump Confirms US Role

US President Donald Trump announced America’s involvement in the operation, warning that bombs would be “dropped everywhere” if the Iranian threat persisted. The mission is designed to neutralise Iran’s missile and nuclear capabilities in the midst of long-running tensions, he said.

Strikes Near Khamenei’s Office

Reports also said there had been blasts near the office and residential complex of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran. Officials say however, that Khamenei has transferred to another, secure place and was not present for the strikes. 

Airspace Shut, Flights Cancelled

 As tensions mounted, Iran, Israel and Iraq closed their airspaces. Civilian flights were canceled or diverted and airlines started rerouting services. Mobile networks and internet services were reportedly disrupted in parts of Tehran, too.

At the same time, Israel has issued a nationwide alert following Iranian counterstrikes and missile interceptions. Israeli schools and workplaces turned off or were instructed to be shut down remotely. 

Regional Shockwaves

The escalation sent shockwaves across the Gulf region, with reports of explosions or increased military warnings in cities including Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Riyadh. Though official confirmations differ, the status quo is fluid and tense. 

India Issues Advisory

In the midst of increasing crisis, the Indian embassy in Israel made an advisory to Indian nationals advising them to monitor closely, listen to local security instructions and to not move without meaning.

With talks to address Iran’s nuclear programme deadlocked, the US-Israel strikes are one of the most significant escalations in years. The world is now closely watching, in fear of what would happen next in the region
