US-Iran Tensions LIVE: Iran Claims Israeli Strikes Killed 5 Students, Targets US Bases in Middle East

The Middle East is having one of its most volatile escalations in years, after the state of Israel issued what it described as a “pre-emptive strike” on Tehran that prompted Iran’s retaliation and confirmation of American involvement.

Explosions hit Tehran on Saturday, with reports that strikes occurred near the offices of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran later said five schoolchildren had been killed in the attack and vowed a “crushing” response.

Trump Confirms US Combat Operations

U.S. President Donald Trump said America had started “major combat operations” in concert with Israel. Calling it a “big decision,” Trump said the United States would no longer accept Iran’s behavior and admitted American casualties might result as the operation proceeds.

The Israeli operation, it is known, is named Roar of the Lion.

Airspaces Shut, Internet Disrupted

After the strikes, Israel and Iran closed their airspaces. Flights were canceled or diverted, while internet and mobile services were reportedly cut up in parts of Tehran.

Sirens blared all over Jerusalem, and people got warning that there was an “extremely serious” threat to the population. The Israeli military said the alert was a proactive move to prepare for possible missile launches into Israeli territory.

Iran Retaliates, IDF Intercepts Missiles

But after the initial strike, the Israel Defense Forces said it had intercepted missiles fired from Iran. Defensive systems were on to neutralise an imminent threat to the defense as tensions flared.

By contrast, there were reports that Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen could resume missile and drone attacks to support Tehran, possibly expanding the conflict space.

Regional Fallout Grows

State media says that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is “safe and sound,” and Khamenei is also reported to be moved to a secure location outside Tehran.

The US military operation could go on for days, according to United States officials quoted by international agencies, indicating that the situation is still fluid and unpredictable.

And with diplomatic negotiations already coming to a halt, the current escalation has propelled the region into a high-alert zone — and the world is watching avidly, as events develop in real time.
