CM Eknath Shinde welcomes Bombay HC on Renaming the Two Cities

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his satisfaction with the Bombay High Court’s decision to rename Aurangabad and Osmanabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv, respectively. He mentioned that those who disagreed with the renaming were associated with the opposition MVA. Shinde highlighted that the renaming, initially approved by the MVA government in June 2022, was deemed “illegal” due to the coalition losing its majority after a Shiv Sena revolt. Since, becoming CM on June 30, 2022, Shinde’s cabinet officially renamed Aurangabad and Osmanabad. The Government Resolution for the name changes was passed on July 16, 2022, and sent to the Centre for approval. The Bombay High Court officially recognized the new names on May 8, fulfilling the vision of late Balasaheb Thackeray. Some individuals who contested the decision and took legal action were associated with the MVA.
