The project, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has a total cost of around ₹1,296.25 crore. JICA contributes approximately ₹889.06 crore out of this amount.

According to the announcement, the water supply project is expected to benefit more than eight lakh people in Purulia district.

Adhikari thanked the Japanese government and JICA for supporting the initiative and said that cooperation between India and Japan would help strengthen development projects.

₹4,000-Crore Steel Plant Coming to Purulia

In another major announcement, Adhikari laid the foundation stone for a new ₹4,000-crore integrated greenfield steel plant by Amit Metaliks.

The plant will be constructed at Durmut in Raghunathpur, Purulia, and will be an important addition to the state's industrial sector.

During his address, the Chief Minister urged local administrations and industries to give priority to local employment opportunities.

He stressed that development projects should create benefits for people living in the surrounding areas and help generate new job opportunities.

Focus on Industries and Investment in Bengal

Adhikari said the state government plans to bring more industries and investments to West Bengal.

He also spoke about land reforms and said the government wants to create a smoother environment for industries and investors.

Highlighting the government's early work, Adhikari referred to several development initiatives, including the inauguration of an Amul plant in West Bengal.

He said the government's work will be to rebuild infrastructure and to build the industrial base in the state.

₹6,000-Crore Investment Project Expected in Haldia

The Chief Minister also announced another major investment planned for Haldia.

According to Adhikari, an investment of around ₹6,000 crore is expected to be inaugurated on October 14, before Durga Puja.

He said the state and Central governments are working together to bring more infrastructure, investment, and industrial projects to West Bengal.

With the new water supply project and the proposed steel plant, Purulia is expected to receive a major boost in both infrastructure and industrial development.

A Big Development Boost for Purulia

The combined value of the two major projects launched in Purulia stands at more than ₹5,296 crore.

While the JICA-backed water project aims to improve access to piped water for lakhs of residents, the new steel plant in the area could enhance the region’s industrial activity and create new economic opportunities.

The announcements signal a strong focus on infrastructure, industries, investment, and local employment as West Bengal moves towards a new phase of development.
