Along with the Lok Sabha elections, unrest is also going on in Odisha regarding the assembly elections. Elections are to be held here in four phases from May 13. But before the elections, Congress candidate from Puri assembly seat Uma Ballav Rath was attacked. The Congress candidate has been seriously injured in this attack.

The Congress candidate has lodged a complaint at Kumbharpada police station. According to the police, the attack on Uma Ballav Rath took place on Sunday. She suffered injuries on his head and body. Uma Ballav said that when he was campaigning near the bus stand, suddenly unknown people attacked him with bricks and glass bottles. However, local residents intervened and somehow saved them. After which the police responded under the leadership of City DSP.

Congress candidate Rath said, ‘People suddenly carried out this attack.’ However, suspicions are being raised that Rath’s candidature as a Congress candidate could also be the reason for the attack. Let us tell you that initially the party had made Sujit Mohapatra its candidate from this seat. However, later Sujit Mohapatra was removed and Rath was made the candidate.

Mahapatra’s supporters have done vandalism

Congress candidate Uma Ballav Rath has refused to blame anyone after this attack. Police say that only after investigation will it be possible to reveal who carried out the attack. However, recently, Mahapatra’s supporters, angry over the change of candidate by the Congress leadership, vandalised the party’s district office in the city. Mahapatra had alleged that the party had removed him after filing his nomination papers.

Police should investigate impartially

Let us tell you that Congress had initially declared Sujit Mohapatra as its candidate for this seat. But later Sujit was removed and Uma Ballav Rath was made the candidate. However, the Congress candidate said that she will not blame anyone. He said that let the police investigate the matter impartially.

Mahapatra’s supporters are angry

Earlier, supporters of Sujit Mahapatra, angry over the change of candidate by the Congress leadership, had vandalised the district office of the party. Mahapatra had alleged that after he filed his nomination papers, the party cut his ticket and gave it to someone else.

Elections in four phases in Odisha

Let us tell you that along with Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections are going to be held in four phases in Odisha on 13, 20, 25 May and 1 June. In this, voting will be held on May 25 for Puri Lok Sabha seat and 7 assembly seats of the state. Talking about the Puri Lok Sabha seat, Congress candidate Sucharita Mohanty had refused to contest elections from here.
