Rahul Gandhi Targets PM Modi and Amit Shah

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha, has issued a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the alleged police action against student protesters. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the government was trying to silence the younger generation by registering FIRs and taking down social media accounts of students.

Rahul Gandhi wrote that the government had first “broken the bones” of students and was filing FIRs against them. He also said that Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah could not threaten Generation Z into silence. Calling the youth the future of India, Gandhi added that the government should be careful about how it treats them.

A day earlier, Rahul Gandhi had asked for the formation of an independent Supreme Court-monitored high-powered committee to investigate the alleged police action during the student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 20.

He said students deserve justice and called for a fair and impartial investigation into the purported use of force by the police. Gandhi also shared a video on social media that appeared to show police personnel using lathis on protesters. The video also appeared to show a man in civilian clothes pushing a student carrying the Indian flag to the ground during the protest.

Opposition MPs Protest in Parliament

And the issue also reached Parliament, with MPs from several INDIA bloc parties protesting at Makar Dwar inside the Parliament complex.

The opposition leaders held placards and questioned who had ordered the alleged police action against students. They also raised concerns over the alleged misuse of force against protesters and demanded accountability from the central government.

In addition to the student protest issue, the MPs also questioned the alleged financial irregularities in donations made to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.

Protest Before Key Bill in Rajya Sabha

The protest took place just hours before the Rajya Sabha was scheduled to discuss and pass the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

The opposition seized on the opportunity to highlight student safety and transparency issues that had become one of the most significant political issues in Parliament.

Political Tension Continues

Rahul Gandhi's latest comments have reignited the political warfare between Congress and BJP. While the Congress is still questioning the government’s handling of the student protest, the Centre has not formally responded to Gandhi's latest accusations.

The controversy has also been reflected in national debates around student rights, police action and freedom of expression and politicians are anxious to keep it up.
