Big news from politics. BJP’s national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has resigned from the party.

There is no official statement yet, but the hint is already on his X, formerly Twitter, bio. The BJP name is now missing. He now calls himself a “lifelong follower” of PM Narendra Modi.

Why Did Shehzad Poonawalla Resign?

According to CNN-News18 sources, Poonawalla sent his resignation to BJP’s top leaders citing “personal reasons.”

He updated his X bio on Thursday but did not give any reason publicly.

From Congress To BJP

Poonawalla first joined BJP in 2017 after leaving Congress. He had a fallout with Congress over its president election.

After joining BJP, he quickly became the national spokesperson. He was known for strong debates and attacking Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi on TV and social media.

He has always been a loud supporter of PM Modi and BJP.

Hints He Dropped On Social Media

In the last few weeks, Poonawalla shared old interview clips without captions. In them, he spoke about quitting politics.

In a January 2025 clip he said:

“Should I spend all my energy running behind positions? Some people contribute by becoming elected, some go out of the system.”

He captioned it: “I’m already 2 years late on this..” and reshared it on Thursday.

Just a day before resigning, he posted a video praising BJP saying it’s the best party for youth. But he said nothing about leaving.

What’s Next For Poonawalla?

No official word yet. But his social media posts and bio change suggest he is moving away from active politics.

He continues to call himself a supporter of PM Modi, but not a BJP member anymore.

This comes as another big change for BJP’s media team.

Do you think Poonawalla will join another party or stay independent?
