Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the director of the film 12th Fail did a commendable job in portraying the real-life struggle of the IPS Officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. Vikrant-starrer 12th Fail revolves around UPSC aspirants and is based on real-life experiences. Manoj, a native of Morena, Madhya Pradesh, has several challenges in his quest to become an IPS Officer. Manoj went back to the UPSC four times even after going through multiple setbacks. He was unsuccessful in his first three efforts, but on his fourth attempt, he not only cleared the exam but also achieved an All-India Rank of 121. He now works for the Mumbai Police as an Additional Commissioner.
Manoj had to overcome several challenges to become an IPS Officer
He is a phenomenal person who overcame all challenges to achieve his dream of becoming an IPS Officer. He fulfilled his aim of joining the Indian Police Service (IPS) after going through multiple failures. Even after failing class 12 and earning a third division in classes 9 and 10, he did not waver in his aspirations and determination. Manoj worked as a tempo driver in Gwalior and was motivated by his desire to get ready for the UPSC, the coveted national test for civil services. He had no roof over his head because his financial situation was so dire though it didn’t falter him from the pursuit of his goals. Manoj studied several biographies of notable people while working as a library peon in Delhi, including those of Lincoln, Muktbodh, Gorky, and other celebrities. These books enhanced his understanding of life’s realities and fortified his resolve.

Acclaimed for his portrayal of Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer who rose from hardship, is actor Vikrant Massey. The actor has now replied to a user on X (formerly Twitter) who posted a screenshot showing IRS officer Shraddha Joshi and her husband, real-life IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, in the background of a scene. Vikrant, who played the role of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, was quick to confirm his presence in the 12th Fail scene. The X user wrote, “Did anyone notice in the background, the real Manoj and Shraddha in this scene? What attention to detail! 12th Fail.” Vikrant Massey responded, “Haha!!! So, I finally found someone who noticed this. True, it’s them. A small @VVCFilms tribute to them. Another trivia… it happened at the same place, which is Delhi Haat.”
