Sharif’s wife Javeria Siddique posted on Twitter, “I lost buddy, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad today, as per police he was shot in Kenya.”

Police shot and killed Sharif while he was driving at a roadblock in Nairobi late Sunday.
Local police asserted that the murder was a case of “mistaken identity,” as Kenyan officials were looking for a vehicle resembling the one used in a kidnapping.

An investigation into the incident has been opened by Kenya’s Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), which looks into deaths and serious injuries brought on by police action.

According to IPOA chair Ann Makori, our rapid reaction team has already been sent to investigate that situation. “There are numerous additional incidents of alleged police shootings that result in the deaths of members of the public, numerous cases of fatal shootings of their coworkers over interpersonal issues.”
