7th October 2023, Mumbai: In a recent scam, nine FIR’s have been registered in the case of housing fraud in the region of Vasai-Virar. The police arrested over 21 suspects for allegedly making false documents for the registration of multiple flats in over 55 construction projects with the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA).
Vasai-Virar Housing Scam
In an ongoing investigation of this housing scam of several construction projects of Vasai-Virar area. The accused were illegally building theses construction projects did something even worse. they didn’t just break the law by constructing these buildings illegally but they also tricked the buyers.
The accused where selling the same flats to multiple buyers.
Accused Dilip Benvanshi and Machindra Vhanmane
Furthermore, Vivek Taari, 31, a resident from Ambedkar Nagar, Ghatkopar, reported to the police about the accused Dilip Benvanshi and Machindra Vhanmane registering a flat illegally in Chandansar, Nalasopara East.
Taari said that he bought the flat for 26 lakh rupees while machindra Vhanmane helped him to get the loan of rupees 25 lakh from the bank. However the accuser sold the same flat to two different buyers and collected rupees 50 lakhs in totals from both.
Police investigation and more
According to the statements made by the police authorities, they have received several complaints from the individuals who claimed they have purchased apartments in 117 buildings which have been officially confirmed as illegal by Vasai-Virar Municipal corporation (VVCMC), adding to the concerns raised by the accusers.
The police officer stated that they are now investigating to find out how many total flats have been sold to multiple people in these illegal buildings.
