A day prior to his claimed murder in Bagalkot, Karnataka by the girl’s family, Laxmibai Nelagi had advised her son against getting in touch with the woman with whom he was having a connection.
“I had advised him to avoid the female over the phone for his own safety. Laxmibai, who was crying, stated, “I knew he would be in danger and eventually we lost him.

The 17-year-old girl was from the same village as Vishwanath, 25, but she belonged to a different community. The girl was from the Kuruba community, an Other Backward Caste, whereas Vishwanath was from the Valmiki community, a Scheduled Tribe (ST) (OBC).

The father of the child and three other relatives were detained by the Bagalkot police on Tuesday for the murders, and three more were reportedly on the run.
