18th June 2023, Mumbai: In response to the substantial backlash received by the film ‘Adipurush,’ directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, the makers have decided to change the “controversial dialogues” in the film. T-Series’ official spokesperson shared a note stating that the team is making alterations to the dialogues, taking into consideration the input of the public and the audience, to ensure the film resonates with its core essence.

The note emphasizes the commitment of the team to value the sentiments of the audience and the harmony at large. It acknowledges that despite the film’s impressive box office collections, the makers are dedicated to addressing the concerns raised by revisiting the dialogues. The changes will be reflected in the theaters in the coming days, aiming to create a memorable cinematic experience while respecting the feedback received.

While ‘Adipurush’ enjoyed a bumper opening with Rs 140 crore on its first day, it has also faced substantial online criticism for its poor visual effects, script, costumes, and dialogues. Specifically, the dialogues related to the “Lanka Dahan” scene, where Lord Hanuman is heard saying, “jalegi bhi tere baap ki” (it will burn, just like your father), have evoked severe criticism and trolling on social media.

Social media users expressed disappointment with the portrayal and the dialogues, calling them horrible and not expected. Some users even pointed out similarities with a dialogue from a ‘Kumar Vishwas’ show. Others compared the portrayal of Lord Hanuman in ‘Adipurush’ with previous depictions from the Ramanand Sagar series, the 1990s Japanese anime movie ‘The Legend of Ramayana,’ and various animated Hanuman movies and the Disney+ Hotstar series.

In response to the criticism, dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir defended the dialogues, stating that they were a result of a meticulous thought process. He emphasized that viewers should not rush to label him as a ‘Sanatan drohi’ (traitor to Hinduism). Muntashir stated that respecting every emotion is a lesson one can learn from the Ramayana and that he had written thousands of lines for ‘Adipurush,’ hoping to receive praise for many of them. He concluded by expressing his belief in the film’s purpose of serving Sanatan (eternal) values and the audience’s continued support.
