6 July 2023, Mumbai: Dharmendra, the veteran Bollywood actor, has responded to Jaya Bachchan’s recent revelation about her massive crush on him during the filming of their iconic movie, Guddi, in 1971. The film marked Jaya’s debut in the industry and featured Dharmendra as a Bollywood star, with Amitabh Bachchan making a cameo appearance. Directed and produced by the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Guddi depicted Jaya’s character as a young girl smitten by Dharmendra’s on-screen persona.
In a recent interview, Dharmendra acknowledged Jaya’s affectionate admission, saying, “This is her love and respect speaking. I’ve known Jaya and Amitabh for a very long time now. I still remember the fun times that we had while shooting for Sholay.” Reminiscing about the past, he added that the atmosphere on the sets of Guddi was like a big family, with everyone enjoying the camaraderie and creating cherished memories together. He further expressed his joy at experiencing a similar vibe during the filming of his latest project, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Dharmendra, known for his humility and warmth, also spoke about his first collaboration with Karan Johar in the upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He praised Karan for his kind and affectionate nature, mentioning how the director treated him like his own father throughout the shooting process. Reflecting on the timing of their collaboration, Dharmendra said, “Whatever is destined to happen will happen at the right time. I was destined to work with Karan now. I felt very comfortable working with him.”
Jaya Bachchan, in a previous appearance on Koffee with Karan in 2007, had shared her admiration for Dharmendra, confessing that she had a huge crush on him. Recalling their first meeting, Jaya described feeling so nervous that she hid behind a sofa. She praised Dharmendra’s dashing appearance and referred to him as a “Greek God.” In a lighthearted remark, she mentioned that she should have played the iconic character of Basanti in the cult film Sholay, as she adored Dharmendra.
The news of Dharmendra and Jaya’s reunion on the silver screen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has generated immense excitement among fans.
