May 14, 2023, Mumbai: According to producer Ritesh Sidhwani, the script for the third installment of action thriller Don, to be directed by Farhan Akhtar and starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is now in the works.
As of now, Sidhwani, partner of actor-director Akhtar in production company Excel Entertainment, is in the dark about the plot of the eagerly awaited film.
“Until my partner (Farhan Akhtar) completes it, we will not do anything. He is in the stage of finalizing the script right now… Even we all are eagerly waiting to see ‘Don’,” Sidhwani told PTI.
The 1978 Amitabh Bachchan film of the same name was remade with Shah Rukh and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in lead roles by Akhtar and Sidhwani by Excel Entertainment. SRK and Priyanka reprized their roles in the sequel to the 2006 film Don, which was released in 2011. Akhtar was the director of both films.
Sidhwani is now launching the banner web series Dahaad. Sidhwani is recognized for producing films like Dil Chahta Hai, Rock On!!, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Raees. Directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi, the show is set in a small sleepy village in Rajasthan and centers around the investigation of multiple gruesome murder cases involving women under the guidance of sub-inspector Anjali Bhaati (Sinha).
The eight-part crime drama from Prime Video had its world premiere in February this year at the Berlin International Film Festival as part of the Berlinale Series program. Sidhwani described the reception as ”overwhelming” and noted that the festival allowed them to present India’s culture and issues to a wide audience.
“It puts Indian content in the spotlight for a different audience that doesn’t usually find these stories.” Dahaad, also starring Vijay Varma, Gulshan Devaiah and Sohum Shah, is currently available for streaming on Prime Video. It is produced by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby and Excel Media & Entertainment.
