8th September 2023, Mumbai: “Gadar 2,” the blockbuster sequel to the 2001 hit “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” continues its remarkable run at the box office. The film, directed by Anil Sharma and starring Sunny Deol, Utkarsh Sharma, and Ameesha Patel, recently joined the elite ₹500 crore club at the domestic box office, following in the footsteps of “Baahubali 2” and “Pathaan.”

Even as Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film “Jawan” made a massive ₹75 crore nett on its first day of release, “Gadar 2” remains strong. On its 28th day in theaters, the film is estimated to earn ₹1.50 crore nett in India, bringing its total collection to ₹510.59 crore. This impressive performance has been consistent throughout its run: ₹284.63 crore in the first week, ₹134.47 crore in the second week, and ₹63.35 crore in the third week.

Sunny Deol, who reprised his iconic role of Tara Singh in “Gadar 2,” shared his initial reactions to the film’s immense success during a press conference. He revealed that he was quite stressed before the film’s release but was overcome with emotion after witnessing the audience’s love. He recalled telling his father, “I have not had alcohol. Main khush aa main ki kara (I am happy, what can I do).” “Gadar 2” follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which was set against the backdrop of India’s partition in 1947. Sunny Deol’s portrayal of Tara Singh, a truck driver, and Ameesha Patel’s role as Sakeena struck a chord with audiences, making it one of the most iconic Bollywood films.

To celebrate the film’s enormous success, the makers of “Gadar 2” hosted a grand success party in Mumbai. The event was attended by a star-studded lineup of celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Dharmendra, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Shilpa Shetty, Anupam Kher, Sanjay Dutt, Tabu, Kajol, and Ajay Devgn, among others.
